Creamy mushroom toast

This one’s close to my heart—not because I love mushrooms (truth be told, I usually only eat them when they’re hidden in curries 😅), but because this toast turned out to be one of my most saved recipes when I first shared it. That made me so happy!

It started with a viral recipe I came across, and since my partner absolutely loves mushrooms, I thought—why not give it a try?

Simple ingredients, minimal fuss, and an unexpectedly flavorful combination. That creamy, garlicky topping on crisp toast was all kinds of comfort and indulgence. Even I had to admit—it was pretty amazing. And honestly? I ended up eating more slices than I planned!

👩‍🍳 Method:

  1. Sauté the Mushrooms:
    Heat olive oil in a pan. Add sliced mushrooms and sauté on medium heat until they release water and turn golden brown.
  2. Add Butter & Herbs:
    Add butter to the same pan along with mixed herbs. Stir well to infuse flavors.
  3. Create the Creamy Base:
    Sprinkle all-purpose flour over the mushrooms and mix well to coat evenly. Slowly add milk while stirring continuously to form a creamy mixture.
  4. Season & Simmer:
    Add salt and pepper to taste. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Toast the Bread:
    Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp.
  6. Assemble the Toast:
    Spread the creamy mushroom mixture generously over the toast. Garnish with chopped coriander and a sprinkle of herbs.
  7. Serve Warm:
    Serve immediately while warm—best enjoyed with tea or coffee!
